Getting physically ready
for a motorcycle raid

A raid is several days of effort on terrain that doesn't forgive fatigue. I tell everyone who comes along, straight up: a little preparation beforehand changes everything, both for the enjoyment and for safety.

The most useful thing is cardio. A few weeks of running, cycling or swimming before you leave, and you'll hold up a lot better on the long stages, when the heat and the kilometers start to weigh. Nothing extreme, just consistency.

A bit of strength work doesn't hurt either. On an off-road bike, you're constantly working your legs, upper body and, above all, your core. It saves you a lot of soreness and cuts down the risk of silly injuries.

On the ground, two things make the difference: drink a lot, really a lot in the desert, and recover well in the evening. A good night's sleep and a proper meal, and you set off fresh the next morning.

On the day itself, nothing replaces time in the saddle. You manage your effort, you listen to your body, and you enjoy it. I make sure everyone moves at their own pace, without ever tipping into the red. My raids.
